How are they regulated in Canada ?

In Canada, food labeling is mainly regulated by the federal Food and Drugs Act and the Consumer packaging and labeling Act, managed by the Ministry of Justice and applied by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. Other laws can "piggyback" on food labeling depending of the food category.

The Food and Drugs Regulation provides the labeling of all prepackaged foods, including requirements relating to the list of ingredients on the label, nutritional labeling, shelf life dates, the allegations relating to the nutrient content, the allegations relating to health and food for consumers with special dietary needs. The Regulation also establishes requirements for bilingual labeling.

And if I do not comply ?

Health Canada may at any time inspect facilities if it has reasonable justification to believe that this is necessary to prevent injury to the health of the purchaser or consumer of a natural health product. In addition, Health Canada may at any time require the owner to recall the product. Anyone contravening the provisions of the Food and Drugs Act and/or the Consumer packaging and labeling Act is liable to a fine of 1000 to $ 250,000 and imprisonment.
